This Blood Which Has Disappeared Without Leaving a Trace

This Blood Which Has Disappeared Without Leaving a Trace is a watercolor animation that bears witness to three disappearances in Kashmir—an amalgamation of the countless children and men who have been made to disappear or killed through fake encounters by the Indian military. Mothers, Half-widows and children carry the continuous weight of resistance and remembrance.

Through the repetitive act of painting over the same image again and again, the film constructs a visual palimpsest where each person and their memory becomes embedded within the folds and creases of the paper—each memory remains present even as it disappears.

Drawing its title from Faiz Ahmed Faiz's poem, In Search of Vanished Blood, this film confronts the cruel oxymoron at the heart of Kashmir's militarisation: India is both the arbiter of justice and the perpetrator of violence.
